What does your t-shirt say about you?

T-shirts are globally the most worn piece of outer clothing. Everyone has a t-shirt in their wardrobe and some have an amazing collection, but have you ever wondered what people see when you walk past them with your t-shirt on? A walking bilboard to your personality, a gateway to your mind or simply a projection of what you believe, the slogan on your chest is important.

Little Symbols

If you wear a t-shirt which has nothing more than a corporate logo then effectively you are nothing more than a walking advert. Brands want to market their clothing in adverts using cool people, pretty people, young people, etc. You aren't the advert and you shouldn't pretend to be. They say a cluttered place is a sign of a cluttered mind, but by that logic what does it make an empty room. Buying clothing for their street cred label is a foolish idea and shows a lack of free thinking.

 Im Hip and I'm Cool

By getting on a bandwagon you can appear to others to be a sheep, buying a Keep Calm t-shirt in 2013 is kind of like showing up for a Beatles gig in 1999 and wondering why nobody else is there. You are so late for the party that you don't even get a beer, the cool kids have paired off and gone home and you only appeal to the left overs, who are probably so drunk they won't remember who you are in two seconds. Being hip and cool is a race, you need to be on the ball, ready to get that must have item before everyone else does, seeing a t-shirt on the TV or worn by your favourite pop star is a great way to inspire something that interests you but why wait till that local Chain outlet is selling them, get your own one made up especially for you, with your own little twist today, yes right now here is a link to get your own personalised t-shirt.

I'm Political

I love political t-shirts even if I don't love the message I like to conviction it shows in the wearer, proud to announce to complete strangers their views. A message can be powerful, provoke thought and spark political interest in an otherwise uninterested party. The only issue with political attire is that you may end up finding yourself stuck on a tube train in rush hour surrounded by corporate wage slaves wearing an Anarchy t-shirt and know exactly what loneliness is. So wear it proud but don't get yourself into danger.

I Don't get Irony

I was big into the Indie scene growing up and part of my love of music meant I wanted to learn about these musical Gods. I listened to interviews, I read every bit of the album insert and I even would sit up late to watch documentaries. I understood their message, their perspective and I put my own feeling and stamp on what the music meant to me. Seeing someone wear a Nirvana t-shirt depresses me, Kurt Cobain was ashamed of the success and vehicle for money his music became, selling out is a rock stars nightmare and seeing crowds of kids wear smiley faces would be enough to make you turn in your grave.

I'm Outrageous

I'm so outrageous I wear a t-shirt which will offend lots of people. Not only that I'm really proud of wearing an offensive t-shirt. I would never wear offensive language on my chest because I wouldn't want to subject children to it. It shows a lack of class and a total ignorance of your local community. It may seem funny or outrageous at first but in the end you simply project the message that you don't care and are to be avoided.

I'm in Trouble

Wearing a t-shirt in the wrong place at the wrong time is enough to make anyone sweat. Like the wearing a George Bush t-shirt to an Obama conference or a Blur t-shirt to an Oasis gig you are taking a big risk. Of course if thats your aim then lets hope you know kung fu.

Stag do T-Shirts....The Rules!

The stag do t-shirt is a must for any bachelor celebrating their limited time before marriage, as a memento they are great for the group and can really help start the fun. As part of the best man's responsibilities the stag do is the main one, forget remember the wedding rings if you get the stag do wrong you will go down in history as a lame best man. So start things off with a bang with your t-shirt design but be careful not to get it wrong. Here are some tips about how to get it right!

Avoid offensive language

Nobody wants to see offensive language and if you are likely to come across the general public it could land you in a lot of trouble, a funny nickname might be hilarious to your friends but don't fall foul of the authorities by branding your top with rude words!

Cater for your group

You may find the group is a large mix of ages, some will be used to wearing t-shirts but older gents may prefer a nice polo shirt, although it is more expensive it will certainly be received better if you cater for this preference!

Keep your activity in mind

Getting into a club with a t-shirt branded as Boys on Tour may be like a Mission Impossible film, so unless you are Tom Cruise you may wish to tone down the message, a subtle left hand breast design for a weekend clubbing would be great, but a weekend away at a festival go all out and get those designs big and bold!

Make them personal

There is no point in getting simple designs, make them memorable, and ensure you personalise each one to your party, a simple name badge can help the party flow as the group may have some members who don't know everyone, certainly a better way than the awkward "Whats your name again?" Conversation killer.

Make sure the group wear them!

If they are hideous no one will wear them, so make sure the gang are all happy with the design, that is apart from the groom, you can set him apart with a garish and bright top which will leave nobody mistaking who he is!

If you want your own personalised stag do t-shirts why not check out the great range on offer at Dunbar T-Shirt Shop. Great priced packages available for all budgets!

Top 5 Best and Worst current Tshirt trends

I wear Tshirts pretty much everyday, I think most blokes in my generation do, they are comfy and convenient and can express your mood. Having such a large collection of tees means I'm constantly looking for new and different ideas. Sometimes I will really like a design or a slogan and other times I'm just like why would someone want to wear that? So I thought I'd put together my current (2013) top 5 and worst 5 Tshirt trends.

Top 5 Best T-Shirts

1. Independence T-shirt

Being an avid supporter of independence I love this T-shirt as it has gold Lion rampant with blue text. This makes it stand out on a white background and is not overtly big in design so doesn't look out of place. I am a big supporter of people wearing politically motivated tees as I think anything to provoke some political thinking is a good thing in a country with only 50% turn out for most elections. Even if someone wore a Thatcher idolizing tee I'd be happy that they are sharing their message.

2. Plane T-shirt

This tee is great because it sums up my sense of humour. Also because the number of people who look at you and then think for a minute before actually getting the joke is unbelievable. Seriously some people can take a full five minutes of hard concentration before they get it. Humour on a tee is a great thing as long as it's not offensive to anyone, I have seen some pretty close to the bone and think wow that isn't very nice.

3. Johnny Cash Tshirt

Johnny Cash is an icon, he really is. His music is timeless and he was a really cool and in my humble opinion very underrated. What this tshirt demonstrates is your like for a particular band. Being mad about music I always pick up a tee when I go to a gig, even if its a small band. I once bought a tshirt from the stall outside a gig only to realise it was the drummer of the band who was serving. I love the idea that music starts out like that, the musicians juggling their time on the stall during the warm up acts meeting fans and selling merchandise, you wouldn't catch Robbie Williams doing that, although if he did he might make a bit more on the merchandising.

4. Granny's House T-Shirt

Being a new dad this tee was ideal for my son. I used to love going to my grandparents because you knew you would be spoiled and get away with stuff your folks just wouldn't let you. The saying about Vegas has been popularised by hollywood movies for years so I think when you put a childlike twist on an adult saying it can be very funny. It is also the type of T-shirt that granny likes because she thinks, yea I am loads of fun.

Sunny Dunny

When you go somewhere you gotta get a T-Shirt. It is something you can keep like collecting postcards from all your holiday destinations. Some local shops have some great and funny designs so they don't have to be the old "I went to Magaluf and all I got was herpes" type Tshirts. You can get local landscape and landmarks printed onto a Tshirt giving you a memory of when you were there.

Top 5 Worst T-shirts

1. Naked lady Tshirt

So you like to look at sexy pictures of women, ok most men do and some women do too. You do not however need to put it on a T-Shirt. Its not trendy or cool its sad. Its not even like you can look down and see as then she is upside down, your basically just demonstrating your a big perv to the entire planet and most self respecting women will think your a bit of an idiot. So before you go buy the latest top that River Island told you is fashionable think first about how you want the world to see you and them take a detour on your way to buy it preferably over the nearest cliff.

2. 'Sexy' Tshirt

I hate t-shirts like this especially when it's someone under the age of 18 wearing it. I do not think you need to put a slogan on a shirt saying sexy if you were actually sexy people would get it. Unless of course your wearing it ironically because its your "oh im late" to drop the kids off at school and look like Bigfoot, then feel free to continue. A famous irish comedian once said he saw a girl wearing jogging bottoms with this written across the bum and he approached the dad and said "look mate, thats really not appropriate is it?.............I mean she is hideous!"

3. Massively offensive T-Shirts

There are loads of great and funny kids clothes and babygrows but some of them really are not cool. This T-shirt demonstrates poor judgement and total disregard for the mother of that child. I know its meant to be funny and yes it is slightly amusing but you have to realise that kid shouldn't be wearing that because they are probably going to be round other kids who will then go home and ask their parents what it means and thats not good.

4. Drink reference tees

The type of men who wear these are the type of men you need to avoid. They are clearly out on a mission to oblivion and they should be avoided at all costs because there night will either end in a pool of vomit or a pool of blood.

5. Advertising T-Shirts

If you like a brand then thats cool wear their T-shirt. If your wearing it because you got it free with a 2 litre bottle of juice or at a giveaway somewhere your an idiot. Seriously how do you even function, you do realise the only place any of these tees should be worn is when your painting your roof or clearing your gutters where no one else in the world will see you, otherwise your basically advertising a brand for free, or better yet you have paid to advertise their brand. And i'm not talking here about fashion brands obviously a tshirt from DKNY is going to say DKNY on it, but a soft drink, food outlet, etc etc is not cool, oh wait unless its retro and then crack on, I mean I'd love a Marlboro fifties style tee.
